Research in Oil and Gas

Research Overview
Our current research involves applying nanomaterials and other additives to drilling fluids to enhance their properties. Also, after establishing several robust methods to produce potentially game-changing nanomaterials, through partnership with various companies in the region, to carry out research that will focus mostly on (EOR), carbon dioxide capture and storage, reservoir simulation, modelling, and characterizations.
Research Areas

Crude Oil Characteristics
Crude oil is a complex and diverse mixture of hydrocarbons that can vary in physical and chemical properties based on its specific composition and origin.

Drilling Fluid
Drilling fluid, commonly known as drilling mud, is an essential component used in the exploration and production of oil and gas. It helps to maintain wellbore stability by preventing the walls of the borehole from collapsing inwards

Hydraulic Fracturing
Hydraulic fracturing, also commonly known as fracking, is an innovative and complex process used in the oil and gas industry to access previously inaccessible reserves of natural gas trapped within rock formations deep beneath the earth’s surface.

Well Stimulation
Well stimulation is a process that involves various methods that are used to increase the productivity of oil and gas wells. This productivity can be enhanced by increasing the flow of hydrocarbons from the formation to the wellbore.

Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR)
Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR) is a set of advanced techniques that aim to increase the amount of oil or gas that can be extracted from underground reservoirs. These techniques go beyond the traditional methods of oil recovery, such as primary and secondary recovery, which can leave up to 80% of the original oil in the ground.

Lost Circulation
Lost circulation is a common challenge encountered in drilling operations. It refers to the loss of drilling fluids into subsurface formations, which can cause major problems such as decreased drilling efficiency, formation damage, and even well control issues.
